Sources say that Abby Zwerner sustained life-threatening injuries when a teacher was fired at at Richneck Elementary School, Newport News.

After the injury to her body, the teacher is now in stable condition at the hospital. She was taken to the hospital immediately.

Mayor Phillips Jones said that Ms. Zwerner was on the right track to recovery, but that the mayor added that she was still in critical condition following the incident at the school.

According to social media, Ms. Zwerner is in her 30s. James Madison University in Virginia, her alma mater, offered prayers and best wishes to Abby for her recovery and health.

The child is now in police custody, but it is not clear how the child acquired the gun.

According to the official, approximately 550 students attend the school. Students were randomly screened and all students were inspected during school.

Why did the student shoot Abby Zwerner?

Although the Police have not shared the motives of the incident, Chief Steve Drew stated that the incident occurred after an altercation at the first-grade classroom.

On Saturday, the Newport News Police released a statement stating that Steve Drew, Chief of Department, met with Zwerner at the hospital.

She is currently listed as stable condition. Zwerner, who suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center.
