BCCI Full Form: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is India’s governing organization for cricket, and it is overseen by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Indian government.

The board was established as a society in December 1928, under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.

Rights of the media

Star India has been given global media rights to the IPL for a fee of 16,347.5 crores (US$2.2 billion) from 2018 to 2022.

Zee Telefilms was given the media rights to 25 neutral location one-day matches to be played over the next five years for $219.16 million in 2010.

Sponsorship privileges

Nike was awarded the official kit sponsorship rights for five years, from 2016 to 2020, for a total of 370 crores (US$49 million).

Donations

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly donated Rs. 51 crore to the PM CARES Fund to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in India in March 2020.

Payment of taxes

In 2018, the total amount of tax due as of April 1, 2018, was cleared together with interest in September 2018, yet the Department of Revenue has issued a notice to the BCCI for tax evasion.

According to the information given by the Finance Ministry in Parliament in February 2019, the Department of Revenue has asked the BCCI to pay another unpaid income tax of Rs 1,303 crore.

Earlier in 2007–08, despite the withdrawal of this exemption by the Income Tax Department, BCCI only paid tax of 41.9 crores (US$5.6 million) against a tax burden of 413 crores (US$55 million) in the 2009–2010 financial year.

BCCI was able to avoid paying taxes on its earnings in 2012 by claiming exemption as a charitable organization.
