Bob McGrath was a Sesame Street original cast member. He appeared in many films and projects but was most well-known for his portrayal of Bob Johnson, the original human character on the educational television series Sesame Street.

Sesame Workshop (a non-profit organization that produces educational programs for children) took to Twitter to express their sadness at the passing of the veteran actor. They said that he was a beloved Street family member for over 50 years.

They added that Bob was the embodiment of the Sesame Street melodies like no other and that his performances brought joy to generations of children all over the world.

Robert Emmett McGrath, an American actor, musician and children’s author was born in Ottawa, Illinois on June 13, 1932. He was well-known for his role on the TV series Sesame Street.

McGrath was interviewed by Charlie Gibson in 1989 about what the most rewarding part of Sesame Street.

He replied, “You say you have five children.” You didn’t raise five children. You have raised millions upon millions of children.” He said that raising children is never easy.

When asked about his favourite moments, McGrath said it was Christmas Eve and the 1983 sequence in which he candidly discussed the death of Mr. Hooper.
