Soy Sauce

Poke holes around the top of a plastic cup with a lid and fill it with equal parts of soy sauce and vegetable oil, then set it near areas that you suspect earwigs are infesting.

Soy sauce has a complex flavor with rich aroma and taste. Due to the differences in their manufacturing processes, different types of soy sauce have different tastes and aromas.

Traditional fermented soy sauces have a wide range of odor-active chemicals that may vary in their levels.

Some of the most important include furfuryl alcohol (sugar burnt), 2-ethyl-4-hydroxy-5-methyl-3(2H)furanone (4-HEMF) (caramel/sweet), guaiacol (burnt woody/medicinal), ethanol, methionol (potato/grassy), 1-octen-3-ol, and 4-ethylguaiacol.

If you prefer to kill earwigs rather than trap them, mix up a simple spray with water and dish soap to wipe the leaves of plants affected by earwig infestations.

You should be able to get rid of earwigs completely and stop them returning.

The Light Trap

There are a few ways to get rid of earwigs, but one method that’s proven effective is using light traps.

These traps are a popular way to identify and capture pests and have been use for over a century.

The traps emit a bright, pulsed light which attracts the insects. They can be place in dark areas where you are likely to find earwigs such as beneath paving stones, or near plants.

Although they aren’t consider a problem, earwigs can cause irritation. Earwigs hide in cool, dark areas during daylight and seek out food at night when they are most active.

Check for cracks and gaps in your foundation to stop earwigs getting into your house. Earwigs could also be attract to dripping drains and pipes.

To keep the pincher bugs away from your house, repair any leaking pipes or drains immediately.

Boric Acid

Boric acid, a safer and more effective method of controlling pests, is much less harmful than chemical pesticides. Boric acid can also be use for the destruction of earwigs in your home and around you.

Boric acid can be purchas in powders and liquids. You can spray them directly onto earwig-infested surfaces to kill them instantly.

Boric acid should not be applie to the body. Always read the product label before using, and make sure to follow all instructions for mixing, application, storage and disposal of the pesticide.

Another effective earwig control method is to use a homemade spray of dish soap and water that can be spray on areas where earwigs have seen.

This can be a great alternative to chemical pesticides and can work on plant leaves as well.
