A Lori vallow daybell woman accused of killing her two children has now been charged in the death of her former husband.
An Arizona grand jury last Thursday indicted Lori Vallow Daybell of conspiring with her brother to murder her estranged fourth husband, Charles Vallow, according to a copy of the indictment unsealed this week. The indictment details how Lori Vallow Daybell plotted with her brother to commit murder prior to July 2019.
Prosecutors claim Vallow and her brother Alex Cox agreed that, if not together, one of them would commit murder against her former husband who had filed for divorce and sought an order of protection against her.
Charges have never been filed in the man’s shooting death. Cox, 51, who passed away last December from what a medical examiner determined to be natural causes had claimed that he shot Vallow at his home in Chandler, southeast of Phoenix, out of self-preservation.
Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel issued a statement after learning of the new charge of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder against Charles Vallow.
“These complex and difficult cases require time to properly investigate and solve,” Adel said, noting the incredible amount of hours put in by officers from the Chandler Police Department. “My office is equally committed to holding those responsible for Charles Vallow’s death accountable.”
Authorities are uncertain as to what evidence authorities have against Vallow Daybell, who in May was declared unfit for trial after undergoing a psychological evaluation.
At the time of the shooting, Cox told police he fatally shot Vallow after he was struck with a baseball bat during an argument involving Vallow Daybell. Vallow’s sister Kay Woodcock later described Vallow’s death as both “setup” and “murder”.
Vallow Daybell is currently behind bars for the tragic deaths of her two children, JJ Vallow (7 years old) and Tylee Ryan (17 years old), which occurred in late 2019.
In June 2020, their bodies were discovered buried on the property of her fifth husband Chad Daybell whom she wed shortly after their disappearance. He was arrested immediately and faces similar charges in connection with their deaths.
Daybell also faces charges in the alleged murder of his former wife, Tammy Daybell, who passed away unexpectedly two weeks before he moved to Hawaii with Vallow Daybell and married.
Her body was exhumed in December 2019 for further testing following the children’s disappearance but the results have yet to be made public.
Authorities have also suggested that Cox was involved in a conspiracy to conceal the children’s remains.
