Jeep’s legendary offroading abilities are combined with plug-in hybrid technology in the Jeep 4xe. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, two electric motors, and a lithium-ion batteries.
Its 17.0-kWh battery can provide 21 miles of range on a single charge, while the EPA rates it at 20 mpg in combined city/highway fuel economy.
There are many different engine options available to Wrangler shoppers today. There are currently a turbocharged 4-cylinder, a diesel-powered V6, a 6.4-liter SRT 8 and a Plug-in Hybrid.
Jeep is also rolling out a special edition Rubicon 4xe with a half-inch suspension lift, water fording capabilities, and 33-inch all-terrain tires. Its powertrain is similar to that of the regular Rubicon: full-time four-wheel drive, Dana 44 axles, electronic lockers, and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The PHEV powertrain is comprised of two electric motors: one attached to the gasoline engine and the other built into the 8-speed transmission. It also has three driving modes — Hybrid, Electric and eSave. This mode is not available on the V8, but it keeps the Jeep in the EV mode when it’s on the highway.
