Sione Veikoso Dead At 22 After 15-Foot Retaining Rock Wall Collapsed

Sione Veikoso dead: A football star at COLLEGE, has been killed in an accident under a 15-foot retaining wall.

After a terrible accident in Kailua, Hawaii, the offensive lineman of Brigham Young University’s Football team died.

The Honolulu Fire Department reported that one person was killed and three other people were hurt when a part of the retaining wall rock wall 15 feet behind a house collapsed on a construction site.

Veikoso confirmed the family with Honolulu Star Advertiser. He was the one who died on the spot.

Firefighters arrived shortly before noon, and bystanders used a miniexcavator as a tool to attempt to remove some debris to help the victims.

Firefighters told them to slow down, as the wall was still unstable.

Two of the three victims were rescued by firefighters who manually removed the rocks. However, the third person was still trapped under the partially collapsed wall.

They were eventually able to reach Veikoso, the third person. He was declared dead on the spot.

Before firefighters arrived, a fourth person was able escape the debris.

Two patients were admitted to hospital in stable but serious condition. A third patient in the same condition refused to be treated.

Felimon Juliano, EMS field operations supervisor, said that two other men sustained minor injuries but didn’t require medical attention.

The outlet reported that there were six workers at the site.

Kalani Sitake, Head Coach of Cougars, said that the tragedy of Sione Veikoso’s death shocked her deeply.

“His death is heartbreaking for all of us. As we grieve, we offer our deepest sympathy and prayers to his loved ones. Sione, our love is forever!

Sitake’s message was attached as a retweet to a post on the BYU Football Twitter page.

“On behalf of all BYU Football families, our thoughts are with Sione’s friends and family during this very difficult time.

“Rest in Love Sione. God bless you until we meet again.

Joshua Kava, Veikoso’s cousin, stated that Veikoso was “a gentle giant who loved his family.”

Kava said to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, “He was reliable. He was caring.”

Family members called Veikoso “a great kid” who displayed “selflessness.”

According to his family, he helped his single mother financially seven years ago.

Sione Veikoso Career

 

Veikoso began his college football career at Arizona.

Before transferring to BYU, he appeared in one game during the Sun Devils’ 2021 seasons.

He has played in one redshirt freshman game for the BYU Cougars since then.

He was a sophomore academically, but this was his first season on BYU’s team.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser was informed by his family that Veikoso planned to fly home to BYU next Tuesday.

He was a college football player before he became a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Manaus, Brazil, from 2018 to 2020.

Veikoso is from a family of college footballers.

According to his BYU profile, Sione Kava was Sione’s cousin and played defensive tackle at Oregon in 2018 & 2019, respectively.

The webpage mentions that another cousin, Isi Sofele ran back at Cal between 2009 and 2012.

Veikoso is survived his two sisters, Mele, and Sanimata and one brother, also named Sione.
