In a statement, Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led coalition against ISIS, said, “The mission was methodically prepared to minimize the danger of collateral damage, particularly any potential injury to civilians.”
“During the action, no civilians were harmed, and no Coalition aircraft or assets were damaged.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, the seized ISIS leader has been named as Hani Ahmed al-Kurdi.
He’s also known as the “Wali of Raqqa,” according to reports.
Earlier this year, during a US Special Operations counterterrorismISIS leader Hani Ahmed al-Kurdi mission in northwest Syria, ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi detonated a suicide vest and killed himself.
Before that, in October 2019, another former ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, committed himself in northern Syria when US Special Operations soldiers stormed a compound where he was hiding.
“Coalition forces will continue to hunt down Daesh remnants wherever they hide to achieve their long-term destruction,” declared Operation Inherent Resolve.
